Abstract:

The article focuses on a study regarding the higher risk of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses compared to general nurses. The researchers surveyed 491 nurses in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia and found that 24 percent of nurses who are repeatedly exposed to trauma and stress, tested positive for symptoms of PTSD related to work. There was no difference noted as to the level of stress outside work for the two groups.
